Local color, in style

It took big ideas and creativity to transform a 45,000-square-foot space into Rebel, Toronto’s hottest new nightclub. Local designer Studio Munge was up to the challenge, mixing bold colors and sensual patterns in multiple layers to create a unique, changing environment that breaks up the two-story space into distinctively themed gathering spaces.

Eventscape, a Toronto-based custom architectural fabricator, was tapped to provide multiple custom features throughout the space, including a curved and printed metal canopy over one of the bars and numerous framed textile ceiling panels with integrated uplighting.

The 26 ceiling panels at the main floor “City Bar” each consist of two components in three different sizes, from five feet to 17 feet in diameter. Eventscape fitted the flat circular metal-framed textile disks with integrated LED light channels for dramatic color changes, determining the best position and optimal light placement to both uplight and provide even lighting on the panels.

Encircling the mezzanine are 23 oversized petal-framed oval textile ceiling panels installed in three different layers and angles, creating a wave pattern that reflects the color-changing lights. The panels needed to accommodate perforations of structural columns and stringers. Precise site measurements were taken for these cutouts and transferred to the skin templates to ensure the right fit. Light channels provide additional uplighting on the eight petals at the lowest level.

Eventscape also fabricated a number of accessories, including steel cocktail tables and oval lounge/coffee tables with Italian marble tops in four different powder-coat-finish colors that matched the various themed areas.
