In hot, humid weather most people want to wear light, breezy clothing. If you’re in the military, however, the clothing option is limited to the uniform you’re issued. Outdoor Research, a Seattle, Wash.-based designer of high-performance outdoor gear, has partnered with W.L. Gore & Associates, Newark, Del., to create military clothing that is comfortable in high temperatures while offering optimal performance.
The Muzzle Brake uniform is made of GORE® Advanced Combat Fabric (ACF), a highly air-permeable fabric that meets the no melt/no drip requirement of the Department of Defense. Made of proprietary ePTFE fiber woven with nylon and cotton fibers, its rapid drying properties allow the fabric to dry faster than traditional nylon/cotton blend apparel even after field use and laundering. The durable fabric is made to resist tears and breaks while offering a decrease in water pickup compared to a standard combat uniform.
The Muzzle Brake Blouse is built using Hybrid Mapped Design for optimal stretch, breathability and durability. Woven, double-layer fabric is used on the elbows and forearms of the blouse and on the knees and rear of the pants to withstand terrain and abrasion. Knit stretch panels at the wrists, underarms and yoke of the blouse, and crotch and back yolk of the pants, permit dynamic movement.
