The burgeoning medical equipment industry requires plastic products such as surgical instrument covers, medical inflatable devices, oxygen hoods, disposable warming blankets, fluid bladders and drainage bags—all of which must be welded in clean rooms. Genesis Plastics Welding, Indianapolis, Ind., invested $500,000 to expand its Class 7 clean room to increase production capacity of radio frequency plastics welding of medical devices, supplies and equipment. By doubling the size of its clean room, which ensures that products welded do not contain contaminants that could harm patients, the company plans to expand its business, including thermoplastic heat sealing using ecoGenesis™, a proprietary technology. Genesis provides contract manufacturing services that are compliant with U.S. Food and Drug Administration and ISO Standard 14644 clean room requirements.
