The increase in cotton yarn prices has led to a growing interest in India’s manmade fibers, according to the Synthetic and Rayon Textile Export Promotion Council in Mumbai, India. For the period between April and September 2009, manmade fiber exports rose by 10 percent over the previous year. Demand for synthetics in Europe and West Asia is increasing, but U.S. markets remain weak. The Council advocates that the Indian government increase duty drawback rates to boost Indian exports.
