Dr. Liz Mallen, Impact Protection Business Development Manager for Dow Corning Corporation, will present information on the company’s Active Protection System at the How to Enter Technical Textiles Markets symposium this month.
The Dow Corning Active Protection System is a patented impact protection textile that aims to address the drawbacks of traditional hard-armor systems by delivering comfortable, versatile protection. Mallen will discuss what Dow Corning has learned since the product was first launched in 2006, and identify and explain new opportunities utilizing the new technology platforms.
Dow Corning recently made the Active Protection System capable of use in a range of new applications, including medical, sports and personal protective equipment (PPE). The system’s S-Range is based on 3D spacer textile technology and the TP-Range is based on thermoplastic technology.
Mallen says the seven new products are flexible, breathable and washable, while providing impact protection. “Overall, designers are getting far more choices,” Mallen says. “Unlike bulky hard-armor systems, Dow Corning Active Protection System silicone technologies are very comfortable to wear in terms of fit, freedom of movement and breathability.” The textiles are supplied on rolls and can be cut into desired shapes or built into layers to maximize protection.
The Fifth International Symposium on How to Enter Technical Textiles Markets, which takes place October 15–16 in Edinburgh, Scotland, will offer attendees an opportunity to hear from international experts about the nature of and prospects for every technical textiles market.
