The Consumer Safety Product Improvement Act of 2008 becomes effective February 10, 2009, restricting use of lead on products for children. According to FabricLink, an online resource for fabrics and apparel, manufacturers and retail customers may have large inventories of stock that become unsafe or illegal to sell. FabricLink and TEXbase, a supplier of supply management software based in Bozeman, Mt., recently offered a panel discussion on how the law affects the entire supply chain. Transparent production processes were recommended, including ways to track and ensure that various product components are in compliance with the new law.
