On June 3, the Ethisphere Institute, a think-tank dedicated to profitable and ethical best practices, and Forbes magazine announced the second annual World’s Most Ethical Companies list. Milliken & Company, Spartanburg, S.C., made the list in the Industrial Manufacturing category. “ They [Milliken] go well beyond legal minimums, opting instead to bring about innovative ideas that contribute to the public well being,” says Alexander Brigham, executive director of the Ethisphere Institute.
Research for the list included 10,000 of the world’s leading companies on six continents. Analysts reviewed codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infractions, sustainable practices and corporate citizenship, among other issues. Nominations from industry peers and feedback from consumer action groups helped focus Forbes on the top ethical firms. The Ethisphere Institute also publishes a Government Contractor Ethics Program Ranking™ and plans a Global Anti-Corruption Quotient in the near future.
