The textile industry in Tamil Nadu, India, underwent a serious crisis this spring. Operations were paralyzed due to a sharp rise in cotton prices and an acute power shortage, Southern India Mills Association reports. Mills there usually procure the required cotton from November to February each year to produce yarn, but this year the mills bought less than 20–30 percent due to increased prices.
