Europe’s biggest international lighting exhibition is Euroluce, held in Milan in conjunction with Salone del Mobile Milano (the Milan Furniture Fair). At Euroluce 2017 last April, 485 exhibitors displayed the latest in indoor, outdoor and industrial lighting products, including many innovative, cutting-edge designs.
The Italian lighting company Leucos created a dramatic rendition of their own Trigona luminaire, the iconic pendant lamp designed for the company by Danilo de Rossi. Working with German textile designer Nya Nordiska, Leucos created a walk-in installation using 7.50-meter sheaths of semi-transparent and opaque textiles to encase the lighting fixture. Six different fabrics by Nordiska were used to create interest, texture and light.
Included in the design was Trevira CS-based fabric Batumi Uni, a transparent fleece, Gloss CS with a chintz finish for a high-gloss effect, and Kito CS with a vivid, almost crushed appearance. The other Trevira CS fabrics used were Liska CS, featuring contrasting and partly shining yarn to create an airy grid structure, and Tatami CS, with the look and texture of taffeta and a pattern reminiscent of origami.
The design was finished with Taka-Ona, a semi-transparent decorative fabric made of paper-like polyester mat with squares of polyester film applied in a geometric pattern.
The sculptural fixture sparkled with shades of white, gold, bronze, silver, tobacco, ivory, avocado, amethyst and black. High-impact sequin appliqués on the Taka-Ona caught the light and produced reflections visible from afar. For details, visit www.nya.com.
