EDANA, the Brussels-based global association serving the nonwovens and related industries, has released the results of a review of wipes packaging in Europe, showing that companies are voluntarily adopting the industry’s Flushability Guidelines for testing and the labeling Code of Practice for wipes packaging. EDANA checked 229 individual packages in 11 countries and found that more than 90 percent of the wipes commonly found in stores that should have the symbol (to show how to dispose of the wipe) are compliant with the code. Of the 73 products that required the symbol (including baby wipes, toilet cleaning wipes and feminine wipes), 66 showed the symbol, while four items had no disposal indication. In cases where information on the pack does not meet the code’s recommendation, EDANA will be contacting the producers to help them understand its importance.
