Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. (NAT), Vancouver, B.C., Canada, developed the CRAiLAR® enzymatic technology for processing bast fibers (including flax, hemp, jute and kenaf). Working under a third-party manufacturing agreement with Barnhardt Mfg. Co., Charlotte, N.C., NAT has completed its final large-scale production and commercialization trial. Barnhardt, a global supplier of bleached and chemically enhanced cotton fibers, has processed 100 tons of CRAiLAR flax fiber that will be supplied to makers of formed materials, apparel and retail products. The company’s first full-scale production facility is currently under construction in Pamplico, S.C.
