[Ace Geosynthetics] Taiwan
Mountains cover more than 70 percent of Taiwan and a massive transportation system is essential for cargo transport. The Taiwan Ministry of Transportation had devised a temporary solution to drain out excess water in a steep slope in Nantou County in central Taiwan, but landslides instigated by torrential rains caused major damage and revealed several fault zones cutting through the area, making rock mass fragile and weak. A drainage solution was the first priority in this roadway repair project. One of the design elements was a wraparound reinforcement system, using ACEGrid® GG200-II geogrid from Ace Geosynthetics. With the help of dredged gravel backfill and a complete drainage system, piles and soil anchors were installed to stabilize the toe of the slope. Landslides are now successfully controlled.
